Barrachandroman Farmhouse is a traditional Hebridean farmhouse. The original farmhouse was built in the 17th century and was extended both more than a century ago — hence the thick internal wall — and in the 1980s with the addition of the sun-room part of the house. The previous owners of Barrachandroman purchased the farmhouse from the Lochbuie Estate in the 1980s and then a few years later bought the adjacent Barn and converted it into their home, with Barrachandroman Farmhouse becoming holiday self-catering accommodation. In the past 5 years, the farmhouse has been extensively restored by the current owners with the aim of retaining the building's character whilst providing up to date facilities. Retaining the traditional character has meant that bedrooms do not have en-suite facilities and one of the staircases is steep and narrow.
There are four bedrooms — two off each staircase — one double, two twins and a single. Downstairs, there is a kitchen, sitting room, dining room and sun-room plus bathroom, separate toilet, shower room and utility room as well as 2 porches.
Barrachandroman has a private water supply which draws water from the burn prior to treatment by filters and UV systems. The kitchen tap is tested annually by Argyll & Bute Council; a copy of the latest test report is included in the information folder.
The kitchen has recently been replaced and is fully equipped.
The house has wall-mounted electric heaters in each room with temperature controls; some heaters also have in-built timers. Outside of the Summer period, the kitchen is heated by an Aga. The sitting room is also equipped a wood burning stove which was installed in 2023.
Barrachandroman does not receive terrestrial TV or mobile phone signals so television is received via satellite (Freesat). Broadband is available in the farmhouse — the wifi range extender is located in the sun room — with strong signal in parts of the house were the signal is not blocked by thick granite walls. Mobile phones which support wifi calling will allow incoming and outgoing calls.
